Device Actions (Windows)

The Device Actions job allows administrators to remotely execute essential device management actions such as Reboot, Shut down, Lost Mode, Lock, and Wipe on devices. 

To create a Device Action job to Lock, Lost, Reboot, Shutdown or Wipe the device and deploy it to the enrolled device(s) or group(s) remotely, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to SureMDM Web Console > Jobs > New Job > Windows > Device Actions. 

  2. In the Device Actions prompt, enter a Job Name and select Action Type.

  3. Choose appropriate optons based on Action Type

  • Lock Device - Use this action type to lock the device remotely.

    Password should be configured and enabled to access the device.

  • Lost Mode
    • Lost Mode - Use this action type to enable Lost Mode on the devices.
      • Message - Displays the text entered when device is in Lost Mode and switched on.
      • Phone Number - Displays the phone number along with Message when device is in Lost Mode.
      • Footer - Displays a footer text below message when device is in Lost Mode.
      • EmaiL Addresses - Displays the email address along with Message when device is in Lost Mode.
      • Password - Enables a password that can be used to exit Lost Mode.
    • Recovery Mode - Use this action type to disable or revoke Lost Mode on the devices.

  • Reboot - Use this action type to reboot devices remotely.
    • Force Reboot - Immediately restart the device without requiring user intervention, potentially interrupting any ongoing processes or unsaved work.
    • Reboot After - Specify the time in seconds after which the device should reboot
  • Shut Down - Use this action type to shutdown devices remotely.
    • Force Shut Down - Immediately power off the device without requiring user intervention, potentially causing data loss or interruption of ongoing processes.
    • Shut Down After - Specify the time in seconds after which the device should shutdown.
  • Wipe Device - Use this action type to remotely wipe devices.
    • Remote wipe of the device - Removes all personal, company data and settings from the device.
    • Back up data and wipe - Performs a remote reset on the device and persist user accounts and data.
    • Remote wipe and fully clean the internal drive - Keeps trying to reset the device until it’s done, even if device loses power. In some device configurations, this command may leave the device unable to boot.
    • Back up provisioning data and wipe - Keeps trying to reset the device until it’s done, even if device loses power. In some device configurations, this command may leave the device unable to boot.

The newly created job will be listed in the Jobs List section. 

  1. Go back to the Home tab and select the Windows device(s) or group(s).

  2. Click Apply to launch the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt.

  3. Select the job under All Jobs/Profiles.

  4. Click Apply in the Apply/Profile To Device prompt.
