Safari Settings

The Safari Settings payload enables IT administrators to manage Safari browser configurations such as history management, private browsing behavior, website summarization, and new tab start page settings using Declarative Device Management (DDM). It helps control user behavior, enhance security, and ensure a consistent browsing experience across managed devices. Supported on macOS 26.0 onwards.

Note: This profile is available only for Device Enrollment and applicable only on User channel.

Steps to Configure Safari Settings payload

  1. On the SureMDM Web Console, navigate to:
    Profiles > macOS > Add > Device Enrollment > Enable User Profile toggle > Safari Settings > Configure

  2. Enter a Profile Name

  3. In the Configure Safari Extensions screen, configure the below options.

Allow History ClearingSpecify the action type
Not Configured - SureMDM does not alter this setting when set to ‘Not Configured’.
Disable - Prevents users from clearing Safari browsing history.
Allow Private BrowsingSpecify the action type
Not Configured - SureMDM does not alter this setting when set to ‘Not Configured’.
Disable - Restricts private browsing in the Safari browser.
Allow SummarySpecify the action type
Not Configured - SureMDM does not alter this setting when set to ‘Not Configured’.
Disable - Restricts summarization of content in the Safari Browser.
Enable New Tab Start Page ConfigurationSpecify the action type
Not Configured - SureMDM does not alter this setting when set to ‘Not Configured’.
Enable - Allows to configure the New Tab Start Page.
Page TypeSpecify the action type
Default - Safari uses the default start page and does not allow setting a custom Homepage.
Homepage - Safari uses the page specified by HomepageURL, and sets it as the Homepage.
Extension - Safari will use the page from the extension you configure below and will disable the Homepage setting.
Applicable only if Enable New Tab Start Page Configuration is set to Enable.
Homepage URLEnter the URL of the homepage which needs to start with https:// or http://
Applicable only if Page Type is set to Homepage.
Bundle IDEnter the Bundle ID of the specified extension.
Applicable only if Page Type is set to Extension.
Team IDEnter the Team ID of the specified extension.
Applicable only if Page Type is set to Extension.
  1. Click Save.
    The newly created profile will be listed in the Profiles section.

  2. Go back to the Home tab and select the macOS device(s) or group(s).

  3. Click Apply to launch Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt.

  4. In the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt, select the created profile and click Apply.
