Login Window

The Login Window payload allows IT administrators to configure the Login Window settings for users of a Mac that enrolled via device management. These settings help to configure settings for user login, control the user’s ability to restart and shut down the Mac from the login window, and set the appearance of the login window.

  • This profile is available only for Device Enrollment and applicable only on Device Channel
  • Supported OS Version: macOS 10.7 or later

Steps to Configure Login Items Configuration Profile

  1. On the SureMDM Web Console, navigate to Profiles > macOS > Add > Device Enrollment > Login Window > Configure

  2. Enter a Profile Name.

  3. In the Configure Login Window screen, configure the required options under the available accordions.


Login Window Settings

SettingDescription
Show additional information in the menu barEnter the text to be displayed as additional information in the menu bar, including hostname, macOS version, and IP address when the menu bar is selected.
Show Username and Password fields instead of list of usersIf checked, the system shows the username and password fields.
Hide Local UsersIf checked, the system displays only network and system users when displaying the users list.
Hide Mobile AccountsIf checked, the system hides mobile account users in a user list. In some cases, mobile users show up as network users.
Show Network UsersIf checked, the system shows network users when showing a user list.
Hide Admin User accountsIf checked, the system hides administrator users when showing a user list.
Display “Other” in Login WindowIf checked, the system displays “Other…” when it shows a list of users.
Hide the Sleep buttonIf checked, the system disables the Sleep button.
Hide the Restart buttonIf checked, the system disables the Restart button.
Hide the Shut Down buttonIf checked, the system disables the Shut Down button.
Disable the Restart menu while logged inIf checked, the system disables the Restart menu item when the user is logged in.
Disable the Shut down menu while logged inIf checked, the system disables the shut down menu item when the user is logged in.
Disable the Power Off menu while logged inIf checked, the system disables the power off menu item when the user is logged in.
Disable the Log out menu while logged inIf checked, the system disables the Log Out menu item when the user is logged in. Available in macOS 10.13 and later.
Disable the immediate Screen Lock functionIf checked, the system disables the immediate Screen Lock functions. Available in macOS 10.13 and later.
Hidden Users listSpecify the usernames that should be hidden from the login window under Other option.

Options

SettingDescription
Auto Login UsernameEnter the user short name for an existing user to set up auto login.
Auto Login PasswordEnter the user password to set up auto login. The password must match the current password of the user selected as the “Auto Login Username”.
Disable Console LoginIf checked, the system disregards the >console special user name, which provides a command line UI.
Enable External AccountsIf checked, the system allows external accounts to log in.
Reopen windows when logging back inIf unchecked, current window tabs will not be reopened on next login after reboot / shutdown.
Set Mac computer name as computer record nameIf checked, forces the name of the mac to be set as the computer record name.

Access

SettingDescription
Local-only users may log inIf checked, permits only local users to log in. Network users won’t be allowed to login.
Local-only users use available workgroup settingsIf checked, local users are forced to use any available workgroup settings.
Ignore workgroup nestingIf users are part of a nested workgroup, only the settings of the user’s workgroup are enforced.
Combine available workgroup settingsIf users are part of a nested workgroup, all nested workgroup settings are enforced.
Always show workgroup dialog during log inIf the workgroup has a specific dialog, that dialog is shown when users log in.

Password

SettingDescription
Disallow user to change passwordIf checked, users would be allowed to enable / disable the “Change Password” button in the User & Groups preference pane.
Show password hints after failed attemptsSpecify the number of attempts before showing the password hint.

  1. Click Save. The newly created profile will be listed in the Profiles section.

  2. Go back to the Home tab and select the macOS device(s) or group(s).

  3. Click Apply to launch the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt.

  4. In the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt, select the created profile and click Apply.
