Setup Dock Configuration Profile

Dock payload enables administrators to configure the preferences and app management in Dock. This payload works on both Device and User profile.

Applicable only on Device Enrollment.

To create a profile to configure dock on the enrolled device(s), follow these steps:

  1. On the SureMDM Web Console, navigate to Profiles > macOS > Add > Device Enrollment > Dock Configuration > Configure.

  2. Enter a Profile Name and click Add.

  3. In the Dock Configuration page, there will be two sections available:

  • Dock Preferences - Configure settings such as dock size, dock position, permissions to allow or restrict users from modifying these attributes, etc..
  • Dock App Management - Control which apps, files, directories, or URLs to be available on the dock.
  1. In the Dock Preferences section, configure the below options:

Dock SizeSpecify the size of the dock.
Dock PositionSelect the screen position of the Dock. Options:
- Bottom
- Right
-Left
Allow user to modify Dock SizeIf unchecked, users will be restricted from adjusting the size of the Dock.
Allow user to modify Dock PositionIf unchecked, users will be restricted from specifying the screen position of the Dock.
Show Recent Apps in DockIf unchecked, recent apps will not be available in the dock.
Enable MagnificationIf unchecked, magnification configurations will be disabled.
Magnification SizeSpecify the size of the magnification.
Allow user to modify MagnificationIf unchecked, users will be restricted from turning magnification on or off.
Allow user to modify Magnification SizeIf unchecked, users will be restricted from adjusting the magnification size.
Enable Animation EffectIf unchecked, animation effect configurations will be disabled.
Minimize animation effectSelect the animation effect to be used when Dock items are minimized.
Options: Genie Effect, Scale Effect
Allow user to modify Minimize animation effectIf unchecked, users will be restricted from selecting the animation effect for minimizing Dock items.
Minimize Windows Into Application IconIf unchecked, the animation effect of apps minimizing into their specific app icons will be disabled.
Allow user to modify Minimize Into Application IconIf unchecked, users will be restricted from specifying whether windows are minimized to app icons.
Application opening animation effectIf unchecked, the animation effect for opening apps will be disabled.
Allow user to modify Application opening animation effectIf unchecked, users will be restricted from specifying whether to use an animation effect for opening applications.
Enable Automatically Hide the DockIf unchecked, the dock will remain fixed (disabling the hide effect when the cursor is moved away from it).
Show Indicators for Open ApplicationsIf unchecked, indicators for opened applications will not be available.
Allow user to modify Showing IndicatorsIf unchecked, users will be restricted from specifying whether to show indicators for open applications.
  1. In the Dock App Management section, click the Add option to include the necessary app, directory, or file in the dock.

Merge With User's DockIf unchecked, existing items in the dock will be replaced with the newly added items in the target devices.
Action TypeSpecify the action type:
- Static Apps: Apps added using this section cannot be removed from the dock.
- Persistent Apps: Apps added using this section can be removed, but will reappear upon reboot.
- Static Others: Directory, File, or URL can be added to the dock and cannot be removed by the user.
- Persistent Others: Directory, File, or URL can be added to the dock and can be removed, but will reappear upon reboot.
App NameSelect the app from the list (applicable only if Static Apps / Persistent Apps is selected).
Item TypeSelect the specific item type (applicable only if Static Others / Persistent Others is selected).
LabelProvide the label of the item added (applicable only if Static Others / Persistent Others are selected).
Display NameProvide the name that will be displayed for the added item in the dock on the target device.
PathSpecify the path in the mentioned format:
- App: /Applications/AppName.app
- File: /Users/username/Documents/FileName.pdf
- Directory: /Users/username/Documents/Assessment

Added app / directory / file will be reflected in the table section of Dock App Management.

Note: Removing this profile from the target devices will not reinstate the Dock apps that existed before the profile was applied.

  1. Click Save.

    • The newly created profile will be listed in the Profiles section.
  2. Go back to the Home tab and select the macOS device(s) or group(s).

  3. Click Apply to launch the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt.

  4. In the Apply Job/Profile To Device prompt, select the created profile and click Apply.
