Apply Updates to macOS Devices
Follow these steps to directly select updates from the table listand apply them to the required devices:
On the SureMDM Web Console, navigate to OS Updates > select the Platform > Scroll down to view the table list.
Select the Updates from the table list.
Click Install and you will have below options which can be selected.
Install Action | Description |
---|---|
Download the Software and Install | This action will download the OS update onto the device and notify the user with a 60-second countdown before initiating a restart to complete installation. |
Download/Install the software update then a force restart | This action will download the OS update and, if necessary, initiates an automatic restart without user consent. Please note, this may result in potential data loss if unsaved work is present. |
Download and Schedule to Install - DDM | This action will provide the ability to schedule the OS update on specific date and time. Based on the scheduled timestamp, OS update will be installed on the target device. Target Date & Time: Specify the date and time at when the OS update should be installed on the target device(s). The specified time will follow the local timezone of the target device(s). Details URL:Specify the URL containing details about the update. Note: Notification will be triggered daily before the update deadline. Notifications will appear hourly during the last 24hrs and bypass Do Not Disturb. In the final hour, alerts are shown at 30 minutes and every 10 minutes. If the device is offline at the scheduled date and time, the update will install 60 minutes after it comes online. Applicable only on macOS 14 and above. |
Alternatively:
Click Eligible Device count to open the eligible device list.
Select the required Device using checkbox.
Click Install and choose the appropriate Install Action to update the OS on the selected devices:
- Download the Software and Install
- Download/Install the software update then a forced restart
- Download and Schedule to Install - DDM
- Based on the OS Update progress on the device, the status would be updated in the SureMDM Console

Prepared for Installation | Displayed when the OS update is downloaded and is about to be installed. |

N/A | Displayed when the OS update is yet to be initiated with downloading the respective update due to device offline or other cases. Applicable only for Download the software and install & Download/Install the software update then force a restart Install Action types. |
Edit and Delete Scheduled OS Update Entries
SureMDM allows admins to edit or delete scheduled macOS OS update entries where the install action type is set to Download and Schedule to Install - DDM. These actions are available in the Pending Devices listing page.
Steps to Access Edit/Delete Options
To access Edit or Delete for a scheduled OS update entry:
Navigate to SureMDM Console > OS Updates.
Select the platform as macOS.
Under the Overview section, go to the OS Update Listing Table.
Click on the Pending Devices count for a specific update.
In the Pending Devices popup, select the device entry with Install Action type as Download and Schedule to Install - DDM.
Two options will be available: Edit and Delete.
Edit Behavior
Steps to Edit a Scheduled OS Update Entry
In the Pending Devices listing, select the device with install action:
Download and Schedule to Install - DDM.Click Edit.
This action reopens the Edit Scheduled Date & Time popup, where the following fields can be modified:

Install Action | Disabled (grayed out); cannot be modified using edit. To change the Install Action type, use the Install option and select the desired action. Note: Devices with Install Action set to Download the software and Install or Download/Install then force restart cannot be changed to Download and Schedule to Install - DDM |
Delete Behavior
Steps to Delete a Scheduled OS Update Entry
Navigate to the Pending Devices listing for a specific macOS update.
Select the device with install action: Download and Schedule to Install - DDM..
Click Delete.
The selected scheduled entry will be removed from the Pending Devices list and gets reflected again in the Eligible Devices list.
