Configuring Zebra RFID Reader


To configure Zebra RFID reader, follow these steps:

1.  Turn on the Zebra RFID reader.
Note: It is recommended to connect both RFID and the laptop to the same network.

2. Open a browser and enter the following URL in the format below:

http://<Model_Name_of_Zebra_RFID><Last_6_digits_of_mac>


For example: http://fx75008036bd

  • FX7500 - Model name of the Zebra RFID
  • 8036bd - Last 6 digits of mac

3.  Enter the username and password to login into the RFID reader console.

Note: The default credentials are as follows:

  • Username - admin
  • Password - change

4.  Navigate to the Communication tab and expand the Zebra IoT Connector.

5.  Click Configuration.

6.  Under Configuration, click Add Endpoint and enter the following details:

  • Endpoint Type - Select the endpoint type as MQTT from the dropdown
  • Enpoint Name - Enter the unique endpoint name
  • Endpoint Description - Enter the endpoint description

Connections

Server URL - The server URL varies depending on where the SureMDM account is hosted. Below are the SureMDM URLs based on the region.

  • zebra-rfid.42gears.com
  • If your SureMDM URL/server path is dns.suremdm.io, add the following server URL:
  • zebra-rfid.suremdm.io
  • If your SureMDM URL/server path is dns.eu.suremdm.io, add the following server URL:
  • zebra-rfid.eu.suremdm.io
  • If your SureMDM URL/server path is dns.in.suremdm.io, add the following server URL:
  • zebra-rfid.in.suremdm.io

Port - Enter 1884.

Protocol - Enter TCP.

Client ID -Enter the UID or Serial Number of the RFID reader.

Clean Session - Check this option.

Debug - Uncheck this option.

Basic Authentication - Check this option.

Username - Enter the SureMDM Account ID.

Password - Enter the Things Gateway password.

Keep Alive - Time interval for PINGREQ messages(default is 60 seconds)

Topics

Update the values for Management Events and Tag Data events as shown below:

  • Topic - MQTT
  • Qos - 0
  • Retain - True

Update the values for Management and Control as shown below:

Under Command

  • Topic - CONNECTORTODEVICE/<Client_ID>/<SureMDM_Account_ID>

Under Response

  • Topic - DEVICETOCONNECTOR
  • Qos - 0
  • Retain - True                                        

Certificates

Certificates are optional and can be skipped

6.  Once done, click Update.

7.  Navigate to Configurations > Interface Configuration and ensure all options are auto-filled with the value(EndPoint Names).

    • Management Interface
    • Control Interface
    • Tag Data Interface
    • Management Event Interface

Note: If the value (Endpoint Name) is not auto-populated, choose the same manually from the dropdown and click Update.

8.  Navigate to Connections and click Connect. 

  • The RFID reader's connection status will be displayed as connected. 
  • The Zebra RFID Reader device will appear on the SureMDM console.
