Migrate Apple Devices to SureMDM Using Apple Business Manager (ABM) & Apple School Manager (ASM)
Organizations often migrate from an existing Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution to SureMDM to consolidate device management, leverage advanced capabilities, and simplify administration. Apple Business Manager (ABM) and Apple School Manager (ASM) now supports seamless migration of managed devices from one MDM provider to another without requiring a factory reset on supported devices.
This feature enables administrators to reassign devices to SureMDM, define migration deadlines, and guide users through a streamlined re-enrollment process while preserving device ownership and management continuity.
Prerequisites
Before initiating device migration, ensure the following requirements are met:
- Devices must be associated with Apple Business Manager (ABM) or Apple School Manager (ASM).
- Devices must be running:
- iOS 26 or later
- iPadOS 26 or later
- macOS 26 or later
- Migration of Mac computers to another device management service may require a local administrator username and password. If the macOS users are standard users and not administrators, additional assistance may be needed to help them migrate.
- Devices must be enrolled through Automated Device Enrollment (ADE).
Migration is not supported for:
- Shared iPad deployments
- Apple Business Essentials device management services
- Devices configured for Return to Service with app preservation enabled.

For a seamless migration experience, ensure that the ADE configuration and required profiles are configured in SureMDM before assigning devices to the SureMDM ADE server through Apple Business Manager. This helps maintain continuity of management policies, applications, and security configurations after migration.
