Assign Users to Devices


When the admin assigns an existing user to an uploaded device ID and when the new Windows device is unboxed and powered on, the user's User ID will be auto-populated and will just be prompted to enter the password to continue and experience custom setup process. To assign a user, follow these steps:

1.  Log into Azure AD portal.

2.  Click Devices > Windows > Windows Enrollment > Devices > Select the device > Assign User.

3.  Under the Select User section, select the user.

4. Click Select.

Note: To proceed with this step, it is necessary for users to have an assigned Intune license before they can be assigned to an Autopilot device. This step is optional, and when a licensed user is assigned to a specific Autopilot device, it will only affect the pre-population of the User Principal Name (UPN) and the configuration of a custom greeting name.

After completing the required steps, an enterprise-defined setup process is initiated, enabling the device to become business-ready within a few minutes of unboxing and powering on the registered Windows device.
