Enroll Devices using NFC Tags
Near Field Communication (NFC) enrollment enables administrators to quickly provision and enroll Android devices by simply tapping an NFC tag on a factory reset device. This method simplifies large-scale device deployment by automatically configuring Wi-Fi settings, downloading the required management application, verifying the application package, and enrolling the device into the SureMDM console without manual configuration.
Using NFC-based provisioning helps reduce setup time, minimize configuration errors, and streamline the enrollment process for enterprise deployments. The NFC tag contains all the required provisioning details, allowing devices to be configured automatically during the initial setup process.
Write Data to NFC Tag
NFC provisioning simplifies Android device enrollment by allowing administrators to configure devices using a pre-written NFC tag.
Follow the steps below to write provisioning data to an NFC tag:
Open any NFC configuration application to write the NFC tag.
Navigate to the Write tab.
Tap on Add a Record and select Data.
In the Text field, enter: application
In the Plain field, enter: com.android.managedprovisioning
In the Data field, enter the provisioning data using the format given below:
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_PACKAGE_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION=[Add NFC Tool Link Here]
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_SIGNATURE_CHECKSUM=[Add Checksum Here]
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_COMPONENT_NAME=com.nix/com.nix.NixDeviceAdmin
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_SSID="[Enter Wi-Fi SSID]"
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_SECURITY_TYPE=[Enter Security Type]
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_WIFI_PASSWORD=[Enter Wi-Fi Password]
android.app.extra.PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE=nfc_data:
AccountId:[Enter Account ID]; ServerPath:[Enter Server Path];
HttpHeader:https://; EnrollmentType:1;
EnrollmentMode:0;GroupPath:[Enter Group Path]Click OK to save the record.
Ensure all data fields are accurate and accessible to avoid provisioning failure.
NFC Provisioning – Device Enrollment Flow
The NFC provisioning process enables quick and automated device enrollment with minimal manual intervention.
Follow the steps below to provision a device using an NFC tag:
Ensure the device is in factory reset mode.
Tap the NFC tag at the appropriate location on the target device.
The device confirms NFC detection with a short vibration and sound.
The device automatically proceeds to the next screen.
The device connects to the Wi-Fi network specified in the NFC tag data:
- PROVISIONING_WIFI_SSID
- PROVISIONING_WIFI_SECURITY_TYPE
- PROVISIONING_WIFI_PASSWORD
- The device downloads the application (SureMDM Agent) from the provided URL:
- PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_PACKAGE_DOWNLOAD_LOCATION
- The device verifies the application using the checksum:
- PROVISIONING_DEVICE_ADMIN_SIGNATURE_CHECKSUM
- Upon successful verification, the device is enrolled into the SureMDM console using:
- PROVISIONING_ADMIN_EXTRAS_BUNDLE
