Upgrade SQL 2012 to SQL 2016
To upgrade SQL 2012 to SQL 2016, Service pack 2 is mandatory to install (SQL 2012 SP2).
To install SQL 2012 SP2, follow these steps:
1. Download SQL server 2012 SP2 from the below-mentioned link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=43340
2. Double-click the .exe file given below or run as administrator.
SQLServer2012SP2-KB2958429-x64-ENU.exe.
3. Click Run > Next.
4. Accept the license and click Next.
5. Click Next > Next > Close.
6. Restart the server.
7. To upgrade SQL 2016, download the SQL2016 server from the link given below:
8. Double-click the downloaded .exe file or run as administrator.
9. Browse and select the extracted file from saved directory.
10. Select Upgrade from a previous version of SQL Server.
11. Accept the license terms and click Next.
12. Click Next > Close.
